Freezing Rain and Snow on the Way to Parry Sound this Afternoon
Areas of rain have arrived as expected as a strong Colorado low tracks across the region later today. Most locales will receive a total of 15 to 25 mm of rain. The ground has a reduced ability to absorb this rain due to recent rains and snowmelt. Local flooding may be an issue in poorly drained areas.
The rain will change to snow late this afternoon or this evening as much colder air arrives from the north in the wake of the Colorado low. Brief freezing rain is possible as the rain changes over to snow.
Snowfall amounts will vary from a coating to a couple cm over southern parts, to 5 to 10 cm over northern parts by Thursday morning.
Motorists should be prepared for poor winter driving conditions which will develop quickly tonight. Untreated roads may become icy and snow covered, and quite slippery as a result.
As a result of washed out roads and the chance of freezing rain this afternoon all school busses to Parry Sound have been cancelled.
